1 March 1967: Patrick Wymark starred in John Mortimer’s play ‘The Judge’ at the Cambridge Theatre. A year later, on 12 March 1968, Wymark starred in the TV adaptation as part of the ‘Playhouse’ strand.

Mortimer would later create TV’s cynical barrister, Rumpole of the Bailey, but The Judge was far more challenging than the loveable iconoclast played by Leo McKern. At first the plot seems like a variation on Friedrich Durrenmatt’s The Visit , before veering off in a totally different direction . http://www.wymark.org.uk/judge.html
