Talking Pictures TV will be screening Patrick Wymark in Blood On Satan’s Claw at 9pm this evening (Friday 3rd December) and at 2:15 am on Saturday morning, Lust For A Vampire starring Michael Johnson.

There is a connection between the two actors. As a schoolboy at Wintringham School in Grimsby, the young Wymark was encouraged by one of his teachers, ‘Knocker’ Johnson. And Johnson’s son was Michael.

The Johnson’s lived in an area of Grimsby called ‘The Dukeries’ and a schoolfriend related a story of how Johnson’s mother advertised for a cleaning woman. Young Michael applied for the job, disguised as a middle-aged woman, and so impressed his mother that he was hired on the spot.

Michael Johnson went on to star with Herbert Lom in the TV series, The Human Jungle. And there was one further connection. Both Wymark and Michael Johnson featured on ITV on the evening of Sunday 4th December 1966. At 6.40 pm, Michael Johnson starred as St George in George – For England, one of a cycle of plays called Four Triumphant written by James Forsyth. Later in the evening, Patrick Wymark appeared with Barbara Murray and Jack Watling in A Royal Gala – a charity broadcast beginning at 8.35 from the London Palladium.
